About
John XXIII was founded in 1988 and our mission is:
“to provide housing assistance, HIV education, pevention and testing, and emotional/end-of-life support to individuals and families living with or at high-risk of HIV/AIDS in Monterey and San Benito Counties, California.”
Twenty years ago, Michael Pollock and a local Priest co-founded John XXIII to provide spiritual counseling. During the agency’s lifetime, there have been many changes in the HIV/AIDS epidemic and also the needs of those affected by this disease. In honor of Mr. Pollock, the John XXIII Administrative/Client Services Office is named the “Michael Center”. Visitors to the Michael Center can view pictures of agency community activities from over the years as they adorn the walls of the Volunteer Department and act as a reminder that during the times of sadness when we lose someone to the fight, there is still joy in knowing that together, we are making a difference and sending the message to everyone that “You are not alone”.
Today, John XXIII provides a comprehensive range of client-centered programs that meet the diverse needs of those living with or at risk of HIV/AIDS. Our services are concentrated within four (4) major categories: HIV Testing and Education, Housing Support, Emotional Support, and the Community Volunteer Program. Annually, the dedicated staff of 16 plus nearly 300 volunteers serve more than 250 primary clients, 125 loved ones and 10,000 community members.
