End-of-Life Services
Planning for the end of life transition is never easy. John XXIII’s Emotional Support Department provides assistance in a number of practical ways during these challenging times. Clients, family members, partners, and friends are invited to come speak with us at any time about any of the following services:
Practical Planning
Life Planning Booklet (available in English and Spanish): This resource, inspired by Hospice principles, is an excellent resource to help you make your wishes known to the people closest to you. It includes space for you to record your memorial wishes, financial information, and estate plans. We encourage you to fill out a copy and share it with friends and family. We will also keep a copy in your file located at our office for safe keeping, if you wish.
Individual and Group Support
One-on-One: Staff are here to listen, talk and support you and your family on the end-of-life journey. Individuals are encouraged to call and make an appointment to meet with Eric or Anita.
Grief and Growth: This is a support group for loved ones who have lost someone with HIV/AIDS. It meets on Tuesday evenings at the Michael Center/Client Services Office in Salinas. Contact Eric for more information.
Memorial Service Planning
Program Planning and Design: We are here to provide you with gentle guidance and direction on the overall design of a memorial service. Things we can assist with include: finding a place of worship or funeral home to host the service, working with a local clergy person to officiate, putting together a printed program, and obituaries.
Prayers & Hymns: Our department has a file of hymns, prayers, and songs from a multitude of faith backgrounds as well as non-religious material. You are welcome to browse our collection and pick out anything of interest for you to use during the memorial service.
Burial & Cremation: Our department can assist you with final arrangements. We work closely with local mortuaries that provide cremation and burial services, including sea burials, and traditional burials. Through a generous donation from the Hospice Foundation, funds are available to assist low-income families with cremation expenses.
